Rafa Benitez has moved closer to being confirmed as Newcastle United's manager for next season '“ but it could see a high-profile exit from the club.
Benitez has held more talks about staying on at St James’s Park next season, with reports claiming that he has had the assurances he needs to commit to the Magpies.
However, it would mean that chief scout and board member Graham Carr potentially leaving the club, with the 71-year-old retiring from football.
With Carr leaving, recruitment of players will essentially be Benitez’s responsibility, and he has immediately been linked with a move for one of his former players.
Danish defender Daniel Agger played under the Spaniard at Liverpool, and has been mentioned as possibly linking up again with his former boss.

Meanwhile, Steve Bruce – who has been linked with the Newcastle job should Benitez decide not to stay – has been talking about the Spaniard.
The Hull boss said: “If they manage to hang on to him, then that can only be a positive for Newcastle, in what is obviously a very distressing time for the club.”
