Newcastle United news: Red card update, coach set for exit

The pair were controversially sent off in Friday night's 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest for separate incidents involving Henri Lansbury.

And United spent the weekend considering their options.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez, furious with what he felt was play-acting from Lansbury, indicated after the game that the club would NOT appeal the decisions.

However, United could yet lodge appeals against BOTH red cards.

Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow – who saved two penalties on his return to his former club – has told of the "frustration" felt by Benitez's players after the Championship match.

Darlow has also spoken about the spot-kicks – and a "double-bluff" with Lansbury.

Meanwhile, Heart of Midlothian are in talks with United over a move for Ian Cathro.

The Scottish Premiership club want assistant coach Cathro to replace departed manager Robbie Neilson at Tynecastle.
