Shearer is teaming up with the likes of Les Ferdinand, Rob Lee and John Beresford to take on a Manchester United team managed by Keith Gillespie at Kingston Park Stadium later this year.

The Entertainers 20th Anniversary Game falls almost 20-years to the day since the famous 5-0 thrashing of Manchester United at St James's Park.

All of the money is going towards the Alan Shearer Foundation.

Shearer has been tempted back into management - for one game only - after several months of communication between Steve Wraith, Shearer, Gillespie and the Newcastle Falcons, the former United number nine will manage the Newcastle Legends.

Shearer said "I don’t think I’ll be player-manager, my body is not as good as it used to be, my knees and ankles are shot - I might take a penalty if we get one though!

"With Les (Ferdinand) in the dug-out with me I’m sure I can get the likes of Rob (Lee) and Bez (John Beresford) involved.

"Rob though needs a good three months to get fit!

"Hopefully he will be involved, same with Bez and a few others.

"I have text David Ginola saying hopefully he is fine, having heard what happened.

" I also said it can't be because he did too much running!

"I hear he is on the mend - he hasn't replied yet but I'm hoping he will be here too.

"It promises to be a brilliant event raising vital funds for the Foundation."

Wraith said: "It took a lot of persuading but I’m glad he’s going to be in the dugout as manager of the Newcastle Legends.

"I’m pleased both he, and Keith (Gillespie) who’ll select the Manchester side, have agreed to do this."

Details of players for both teams will be confirmed closer to the date.
