Newcastle United’s Under-21 fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion has been postponed as a mark of respect following the Shoreham Air Show crash.

The game was due to be played on Monday but officials have moved to postpone the fixture due to the tragic accident which has left 11 people dead.

A Newcastle statement read: “The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Newcastle United Football Club are with those whose family and friends were killed or injured at the Shoreham Air Show crash on Saturday afternoon.

“As a mark of respect to those victims of the crash, the Magpies’ under-21 fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday has been postponed.”

Police say 11 people are now thought to have died after a plane crashed into a West Sussex main road during an air show.

Assistant Chief Constable of Sussex Police Steve Barry said that figure could rise further though, as police continue their investigations.
