The on-loan striker took a swipe at West Bromwich Albion defender Dawson during Saturday's 1-0 defeat at St James's Park.

The incident was not seen by referee David Coote, but was captured by TV cameras.

Slimani, signed from Leicester City in January, has until 6pm tomorrow to respond to the Football Association charge.

If the 29-year-old admits to the charge, or it is proven, he will be banned for the club's remaining three games.

United manager Rafa Benitez didn't see the incident at the time.

“Someone told me, but during the game,” said Benitez. “I couldn’t see anything, so we will see.

“At the moment, I’m really upset with the result, and we will analyse the other things later.”
