Like all large-scale events, Kubix Festival had to cancel this year’s weekend of live music in Herrington Country Park in line with restrictions in place to limit the spread of Covid-19, but it’s managed to re-book many of its household name line-up for new dates on July 2 and 3, 2021.

Acts announced so far include Vengaboys, 2 Unlimited, Ultra Nate, N-Trance and Culture Beat on the Friday and Levellers, Stiff Little Fingers, The Futureheads, New Model Army and The Selecter on the Saturday.

To thank those who are working at the frontline of the healthcare crisis, organisers have sent 3,500 free tickets to the following trusts: Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals, South Tyneside and Sunderland Hospitals, County Durham and Darlington, Gateshead and North East Ambulance Service.

Organiser Alex Hutchinson said: “Myself and another of the organisers have worked throughout the crisis in key worker roles and, having seen the hard work in such challenging conditions by key workers across the board, we wanted to do something to offer a morale boost and to say thank you for their efforts.

“We’ve already distributed 3,500 free tickets to NHS workers at various trusts across the region, including hospitals, Ambulance Service and community teams. We’re working with our ticket agents to create a system that will now allow us to go further and ensure that we can get some tickets into the hands of other key workers including care workers, other emergency services and a handful of other critical roles.

“Hopefully, they’ll put a smile on the faces of those working so hard for everyone and reward them with a chance to join us for a huge party next summer.”
