The region’s main water supplier says it is looking forward to recognising those who make a difference in South Tyneside.

Northumbrian Water, which provides mains water and sewerage services, is coming on board as a sponsor for the Greener South Tyneside category in the Best of South Tyneside Awards.

The company says it is passionate about supporting local communities and is delighted to be a part of the awards once again.

Louise Hunter, director of corporate communications at Northumbrian Water, said: “We’re immensely proud to be supporting the Best of South Tyneside awards and are excited to see who this year’s winners are.

“Supporting local communities is something that we’re really passionate about at Northumbrian Water, so we’re delighted to play a part in recognising those people who really go the extra mile and make a difference in their own community.”

The Best of South Tyneside awards, this year, have the backing of Barbour, Harlow Printing, BT South Tyneside, JML, UTS Engineering Ltd, Warmseal and South Tyneside College.

The finals evening, compered by Ray Spencer, executive director at The Customs House, South Shields, will also feature the ever-popular Young Performer category.

Whoever wins will be following in the footsteps of last year’s winner Ellie Stephenson.

Other winners in 2017 included Billy Luther, a registered British show jumper, who was awarded the Young Sportsperson for coming a long way in the sport with a home-produced pony.

Among the numerous highlights of the night was the emotional moment when guests gave a standing ovation to the winners of the Child of Courage award.
