Stacey Hassan, 28, was forced to leave the three-bed property in Brixham Crescent after South Tyneside Council successfully secured possession through South Shields County Court.

The action was taken following a series of complaints about anti-social behaviour at the property, resulting in a breach of her tenancy agreement.

The judge heard that trouble started shortly after Hassan moved to the street in May 2015, with neighbours having to endure disturbances throughout the night with screaming, shouting, swearing, fights spilling into the street, dogs barking and car doors slamming, on a number of occasions.

There were also reports of damage to vehicles and windows, numerous visitors coming and going at all hours and erratic driving.

Despite several warnings and opportunities to moderate her behaviour, the disturbances continued.

A South Tyneside Council spokesperson said: “Hassan’s behaviour, and that of visitors to her property, has had a real negative impact on the quality of life for people living in the area. They have had to endure many sleepless nights and this is just not acceptable.

“We make is quite clear to tenants from the outset that this sort of behaviour puts them in breach of their tenancy agreement.

“Seeking possession of someone’s home is always a last resort, but when the situation failed to improve we were left with no other option but to pursue the matter through the courts. We hope that this enforcement action offers some respite to the local community.”

The Possession Order was secured on January 24 with an order for Hassan to leave the property by February 21. However, when Hassan failed to leave, the council made an application for a bailiff’s warrant to evict. This was carried out this week.

There are many ways to report anti-social behaviour in South Tyneside.
