There is no denying that we are a region of cake lovers - but do you know what the favourite sweet treat is of foodies in the North East ?
Staff at the Alzheimer's Society rolled up their sleeves and got baking this week to create the region’s ultimate cupcake to raise funds to defeat dementia.
The charity is calling on everyone in the North East to join in celebrating its first ever Cupcake Day on June 16, in association with Woman & Home.
Alzheimer’s Society surveyed 2,000 people to find out what their ultimate dream cupcake would be – people could choose their ideal flavour in three categories: cake, filling and topping.
And the winner was a carrot cake base with a chocolate topping, and decorated with cream.
Hannah Woodworth, Dementia Support Worker for the Alzheimer’s, said: “We are calling on cake-lovers from across the North East to get involved and join our cupcake crusade.
“Whether you want to hold a cupcake sale or simply indulge in a tasty treat, everything you do to support Cupcake Day on 16 June will help the 35,000 people across the region who are living with dementia.
“Whether you bake, sell or simply buy a cupcake, join the cupcake crusade to raise money and help us defeat dementia. Every cupcake counts.”
Everyone is encouraged to bake, sell or buy cupcakes at events up and down the country.
