One of South Tyneside's oldest veteran runners completes the Great North Run

A Jarrow grandfather finished the half marathon at the age of 89 while raising cash for charity.

Stewart Temple completed his 20th Great North Run today with a finish time of three hours and eight minutes.

The pensioner, from High Street, took up running following the death of his wife Maureen and has taken part in world famous event ever since.

He has raised in the region of £500 for the Mission To Seafarers in Mill Dam, South Shields.

The retired Merchant Navy engineer said: "I always like to raise as much money as possible for the Mission To Seafarers.

"It's been a brillant run and I'm very pleased with my time, it's one of my quicker ones.

"As always the atmosphere has been fantastic."
