Majority of readers say Prince Harry 'should have consulted the Queen'

A large majority in our poll think Prince Harry and his wife Meghan should have consulted the Queen about their big decision.

It has been reported that The Sussexes did not speak with any royal on the matter. But should they have done?

We asked in our Facebook poll: “Do you think the Queen should have been consulted before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, announced they wished to step back as senior members of the Royal Family?

At the time of writing over 1,700 people had voted in our poll, with 70% saying yes, 30% saying no. Here are some reactions.

Nikki Petters said: “It's their choice, Prince Harry is my favourite Royal. Princess Diana will be saddened by this, but Harry wasn't going to be king. Let him live his life. None of our business, leave them be!”

Dawn Lane said: “Think they should reimburse the tax payers’ money spent the their cottage.”

Helen Wade thinks: “It’s like when you leave any job, you have to tell your your boss. They can’t just find out from any Tom, Dick or Harry.”

Donna Watson said: “I used to respect Harry. Did a lot with veterans’ charities, set up the Invictus Games. He used his position to help others. They say they are under pressure, but are in a privileged position.”

Darren Batchelor said: “I didn't ring my granddad when I changed jobs. I didn’t ring him when I moved to Shields. Why should a fully grown adult do that?”
