Lockdown 3, set out by Mr Johnson on Monday, January 4, once again called on the nation to stay at home as much as possible to protect the NHS and save lives, going out only for a number of limited reasons.

These include essential shopping, for daily exercise and to attend medical appointments.

Back to normal by the summer - The government's route out of lockdown outlined

A “route map” out of lockdown will be set out by the PM on Monday, February 22.

We asked Gazette readers to share their views on the latest national restrictions, one month on.

This is what you said on the Shields Gazette Facebook page:

Fae Parkin: “What lockdown. It’s no different to normal. Don’t know anyone who is off work or on furlough the way we were last time.”

Kerry Walker: “Needs to be tougher like Lockdown 1 otherwise don't bother because these so-called lockdowns are a complete waste of time.”

Viv Easter: “Much tougher – stop the movement and the virus will die out. By allowing movement we are allowing the chance of more new variants.”

Helen Bell: “It doesn’t feel like we’re in lockdown but I think people are being more careful.”

Lisa Marie Bell: “Numbers are right down. So I think it's working. On the right path.”

Ann Cooper: “I honestly don’t think there’s many people who actually stick to the rules now hence why things are never changing in the R rate.”
