Our centre is being ruined

South Tyneside Council is an absolute shambles.

It has killed off South Shields as a place which is nice to visit for shopping by totally ruining the whole of the town centre. As for the Market Place, nobody wants to go there any more.

The council does not care what the public wants. It is all about what the council wants.

It tried to do the same to Jarrow, but Jarrow fought back and now has a thriving shopping centre.

The Hebburn councillors led the Hebburn lot around by their noses.

A pub that was the only real one in the area was closed down, with the intention of it being demolished.

They then built a children’s playground, which has had two ground coverings to date and isn’t even open anymore.

They spent £140,000 on lights down by the river so people could have parties there and watch them flicker on and off. And, yes, people do have parties down there, they are aged between 12 and 20 and they do have a good time – getting wasted.

Then £80,000 was spent on a skateboard park which has more glass on it than all the bottle banks in Hebburn.

And yet when we want a decent car park at some allotments or a ramp so wheelchairs or people with walking difficulties can enjoy the only decent part of Hebburn, this council has tinnitus and can’t hear them.

It is really sad to see what it has become compared to what it once was.

Cars park on pavements so you have to walk round them on the road, even the double yellow lines behind the shops have cars parking on them and as for the pavement at the traffic lights by the doctor’s, it is now a taxi/van park. There is not even an attempt to stop them.
