Former Sunderland, Middlesbrough and South Shields midfielder Julio Arca yesterday announced his retirement from football.
The 37-year old had spent the last three years playing for the Mariners having previously represented the Black Cats and Boro in the Premier League. After moving to the region in 2000, Arca has become a popular figure in the North East and it was no surprise to see plenty of tributes rolling in as he announced his decision to stop playing.
