Parents in appeal fight for nursery boss face wait

Parents who launched a petition to have a nursery manager reinstated say they have to face a wait to put their case forward at an appeals panel.

Victoria Armour - who has a child at Monkton Nursery - is calling for former nursery manager Julie Wall to be given her job back.

Mrs Wall was made redundant from her post in January much to the disappointment of parents. A petition calling for her to be reinstated was launched and has almost 250 signatures.

Since then, the mum-of-two says meetings with the headteacher, staff and governors has taken place at the school in Bainbridge Avenue, South Shields. However, she says parents were left with unanswered questions.

Mrs Armour said: “We are continuing to fight this. We have spoken to the various people within various education departments and have been told an independent panel is needed to hear both sides.

“We are now just waiting on a date, so we have the chance to put our side across.

“It’s the children we feel sorry for. We feel they are the ones who are suffering, and some parents have said their children have become more subdued, due to the changes.

“We would ask anyone who hasn’t already to sign the petition and where possible leave a comment on the page which we can use to put our case forward.”

The online petition was launched in April and has also seen a number of parents leave comments as to the positive influence they believe Mrs Wall has had on their child’s life and on the nursery in general.
