PARLIAMENT will be brought to order by one of Jarrow’s finest – thanks to the town’s MP.

Labour backbencher Stephen Hepburn has persuaded Parliament to sell Jarrow Brewery’s award-winning Rivet Catcher.

The deal will showcase Jarrow to Government ministers, MPs of all parties and high-profile visitors.

The popular brew will now be on tap in the House of Commons’ world-famous Strangers’ Bar.

Jess McConnell, managing director of the brewery, is delighted that politicians from all over the country will be enjoying a subtle taste of Jarrow again – and there’s no debate that it’s good news.

He said: “It is not the first time we have had a drink at Parliament.

“We’ve had Jarrow Bitter on tap in the past.

“It is fantastic news and gives our product national exposure.

Mr Hepburn is delighted that the drink will be taking pride of place in Parliament and allowing his colleagues a sample of the rich history of the town.

He is happy to be joined by all parties in raising a glass to the brewery.

Mr Hepburn said: “The deal will showcase Jarrow to Government ministers, MPs of all parties and high-profile visitors.

“Rivet Catcher celebrates our shipbuilding industry and proves we’re still producing the very best.

“And it’s a nice boost for Jarrow Brewery.

“I’m a local Jarrow lad who is proud to represent all the people and businesses in area who make this such a fabulous place to live and work.”
