It wasn't crammed with people at Sandhaven Beach, but a fair few still enjoyed a scorching June day. Picture by Frank Reid.

Thermometers hit well over 20C today, with the good weather set to continue into Thursday, when it could hit 27C in some parts of the region.

However, there is already a warning we could see thunder as the weekend grows nearer, with a yellow weather warning issued for the North East on Friday.

Our photographer Frank Reid visited South Shields to grab these pictures on a glorious summer’s day.
