She has netted the support of fellow MPs for Hebburn Town FC ahead of its crunch FA Vase match against Consett at Wembley on Sunday, September 27.

And she has done so in fewer than 250 words – by tabling an early day motion (EDM) which asks the House of Commons to congratulate the club.

Her motion won the support of South Shields MP Emma Lewell-Buck and fellow Labour members Ian Mearns, Ian Lavery, Grahame Morris and Mick Whitley.

Scottish National Party MP Allan Dorans and Independent Julian Lewis also signed the EDM, which are limited by word count.

In it, Ms Osborne asked the House to “warmly” congratulate the Northern League side on the “outstanding achievement” of reaching the final.

She also asked MPs to note its success was the “culmination of many years of hard work and commitment on and off the pitch”.

And she lauded the club’s hierarchy, saying “much praise should go to the owners, players, coaches, officials, management committee and supporters”.

Ms Osborne also said she believes the club will receive tremendous support from Hebburn residents and from among the wider South Tyneside population.

After seeing support rising due to her motion, Ms Osborne said: “Football is a massive part of people’s lives in this area and it’s brilliant to see Hebburn Town reach Wembley.

“Hopefully the result will go Hebburn’s way and they can bring the silverware back to South Tyneside.

“That would be such a boost for our communities especially in these difficult times.”

Hebburn Town faces the first Wembley final in its 108-year history after a dramatic victory against Corinthian FC in the semi-finals.

The team fell behind to an early goal and were then reduced to ten men, but Graeme Armstrong scored an equaliser to force extra time.

After both sides scored to make it 2-2, Hebburn won on penalties to set up a North East final showdown.

On social media site Twitter, the club responded to Ms Osborne’s message of support by stating ‘Thank you’.
