Staff have already trained around 300 new and redeployed key workers at more than 20 local authorities across the UK.

The provider is working with South Tyneside Council and Sunderland City Council, as well as independent care home providers to deliver a ‘rapid induction’ programme to new members of staff and courses in key areas such as safeguarding and medication management for those who have been redeployed.

Training in Care is also delivering vital training to individual volunteers who have signed up to help cope with the crisis.

A half day virtual training programme equips them with an introduction to adult social care.

Training in Care, which was founded by former social worker and lecturer Dr Angela Brown, recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and has placed thousands of people in caring roles across the North East in the last two decades.

The only company to be granted academy status in the region, staff have been applauded for their training of adults with learning disabilities and their quick response in training new people within the care sector.

CEO Angela Brown said: “It is an honour to be able to support carers and the NHS in the current crisis. The company won the contract based on its quality of delivery and innovation and it is a true accolade to be chosen.”
