Motorist in 'stable' condition in hospital after car plunges over South Shields cliff
A man who suffered serious injuries after a car plunged over a cliff edge is said to be stable in hospital.
Northumbria Police received a report that the vehicle had gone over the cliffs at The Leas, South Shields, at about 7.30am on Sunday.
A spokesman added that the injuries suffered by the sole occupant of the car were "not believed to be life-threatening at this time".
The force said on Monday that the man, who has not been named, was in a “stable condition in hospital”.
The injured man was freed from the wreckage by Coastguard staff. The South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (VLB), police, firefighters, the ambulance service and the RNLI all rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised.
