Winners such as Mr M have the opportunity to release their name, remain anonymous or release some details through partial publicity.

Camelot’s Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at The National Lottery, said on January 8: “Huge congratulations to Mr M for winning this fantastic prize.

"He has become a millionaire overnight and can now look forward to going on holiday and treating his family with his winnings.”

With the coronavirus pandemic and winter weather forcing people to stay indoors, a Camelot spokesperson added: “Whether you have your own special numbers or prefer to play using a Lucky Dip selection, national-lottery.co.uk makes playing simple and easy.

"By setting up an online National Lottery Direct Debit you can guarantee that you never miss out with the added bonus of having no ticket to worry about or numbers to check.”

Mr M became a millionaire following a December draw.

The next Lotto draw on Saturday, January 9, will see a £20m Must Be Won jackpot up for grabs.

In a Must Be Won draw, the jackpot has to be won either by players matching all six numbers or by filtering the money down the prize tiers to boost all the other prizes.

Camelot has also reminded National Lottery players that they help to raise an average of £30m every week for National Lottery Good Causes across the UK.

This money helps support arts, community and charity, heritage, education, environment and the sport sectors, covering everything from a local charity making a difference to helping national athletes win Olympic and Paralympic gold medals.

Foodbanks and elderly people feeling lonely while isolating are also benefiting.
