Person taken to hospital after emergency crews called out to Marsden

A person has been taken to hospital after an extensive search by emergency services was launched to find a missing person in the early hours of the morning.

Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team were involved in a search and rescue operation along with Northumbria Police to find a missing person in the Marsden area of South Shields.

The coastguard team were called out just after midnight on May 24, joining South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB) and both lifeboats from Tynemouth RNLI in helping police to locate the person.

The Coastguard Rescue Helicopter was also involved in the search between Trow Rocks and Marsden Grotto.

The coastguard said the person was found by police officers during the search where they were given first aid at the scene by the emergency service teams.

The person was then taken to hospital for further checks.
