Much-loved characters have appeared on a South Shields postbox with a special spring message for passersby.

Peter Rabbit plus friends Mrs Tiggy Winkle, Jemima Puddle-Duck, a duckling and some butterflies are all part of the knitted scene which has been attached to the postbox in Stanhope Road, near West Park.

Attached is a note which reads: “Please don’t vandalise or steal me. I’ve been made of many hours of patience and sore fingers.

"I’m here to celebrate spring and the start of the end of covid, when hopefully we can all enjoy better times with our families.

"Tell your friends to come and see me, take a picture and put it on your Facebook page.

"Please respect the work that has gone into making me. I hope I made you smile. Thank you #bekind.”
