Picture shows extent of the damage to South Shields shop at centre of large blaze
The fire broke out at 10am on Saturday, December 28, and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Services said five appliances were sent to the scene including an aerial ladder platform to tackle the blaze from above.
Fire chiefs say they were called to a commercial property and the picture shows the damage was to a shop called Techniserve, which sells computer equipment, CCTV systems and security cameras.
The road is expected to remain closed for several hours.

Hide AdTyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service tweeted the picture of officers at the scene which showed a hole in the roof of the property and the extent of the damage at the front of the business and some of the damaged property taken from inside.
Lynsey McVay, area manager for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, said no-one was hurt in the blaze and the firefighters ‘worked fantastically well’ and contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to neighbouring businesses.
