Arbeia, South Shields Roman Fort, welcomed visitors back to enjoy its outdoor archaeological site for the first time in seven months from May 1 to May 3.

Managed by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM), the attraction has remained closed to the public throughout lockdown, but following the easing of lockdown restrictions on April 12, visitors will be able to explore the fort’s impressive grounds over the three days.

However the museum galleries will remain closed until Government guidance permits indoor attractions to open on May 17.

Social distancing measures were in place to keep everyone safe and visitors booked a timeslot in advance.

Although the weather was changeable over the weekend families still managed to catch a bit of the sun as they enjoyed a fun day out.
