Every year generous readers provide a little Easter cheer for needy youngsters by buying extra chocolate treats in the run up to Easter.

These are distributed to children struggling to overcome long-term illness, disability and problems such as poverty and abuse.

This year we hope to support even more children in refuges, hospitals, homeless units and special needs units

North East charity Hope 4 Kidz, which helps underprivileged children, will be collecting and distributing the eggs in the week leading up to Easter.

Viv Watts, chief excecutive of Hope 4 Kidz, said: “Once again, Hope 4 Kidz in partnership with The Shilds Gazette is launching the Easter Egg Appeal to support special needs children’s units, refuges and hospitals to name a few.

“There are so many children who may not receive an egg at Easter.

“Hopefully we can support those children in our area. Last year we distributed over 3000 Eggs.

“Please donate an egg at one of the drop off points and please try to get your friends, work colleagues and company involved too.”

She added: “We have already had requests for Easter Eggs from a range of organisations with more request coming in every day.

“We are very grateful to people and businesses for their donations because, without their support, we would not be able to help all the charities who rely on us.

“Our plea, of course, is please buy an extra Easter Egg and drop it into one of the collection points so that we can support all of the wish lists.

Joy Yates, editorial director at the Shields Gazette, said: “We are delighted to once again to be part of this appeal.

“It is a cracking cause and we hope this year’s will be bigger than ever.”

The last day for donations will be Thursday April 9.

The drop of points in South Tyneside are Morrison’s supermarket, in Ocean Road, South Shields, and Café Mio, in Sunderland Road, South Shields.
