Since its formation the team has grown significantly in numbers and now plays in Division Three of the North East Mid-Week Cricket League, after being crowned winners of Division Four in 2018.

The prize ceremony aims to recognise those who have excelled in the sport throughout the season as well as inspiring others to be the best they can be, in an event which brings the Asian community together.

As well as honouring the team’s best sportspeople, the event celebrated academic achievements within the community.

Abdus Miah, Tahmid Rahman and Mahrin Ahmed were among the students who received GCSE achievement awards for their excellent results in the summer.

Former MP Emma Lewell-Buck was in attendance to present awards to the winners on the day.

Guests enjoyed a five course meal and the chance to win raffle prizes to raise much-needed funds for the club.

“The ceremony is a nice occasion to bring the community together and a chance to celebrate everyone’s achievements,” said the club’s president, Hussain Rupok, who has also appealed to the community for donations.
