Three teenage South Shields netballers selected for North East regional squads

Three young netballers are celebrating after they were selected for regional squads.

Lauren Tooley, 17, who plays for Speedwell Netball Club, currently based at Harton Academy, in South Shields, has been chosen to represent the under-19 North East National Performance League squad.

Meanwhile, her sister, Megan Tooley 14, and Anais Errington, 15, both from the Tyneside Raiders Netball Club, also based at Harton Academy, have secured places in the under-15 North East academy squad.

All three were chosen after attending trials earlier in the year and and hope to make their debuts once fixtures eventually resume in 2021.

Lisa Murphy, who coaches both clubs and is aunt to the Tooley sisters, said: “To become regional players is an amazing achievement for them and their clubs.”

Lauren is a Year 13 student at St Wilfrid’s Roman Catholic College, in South Shields, where her younger sister is in Year 10.

Anais is in Year 10 at Whitburn Church of England Academy.
