Watch South Shields comedian electrify his FACE in a hilarious video which has now won him £1,000

Sean Turner has warned others not to try this at home and admitted the shock stunt really did hurt but says he’s delighted to win the award.

But the 41-year-old’s filmed the skit around five years ago and he decided to submit the 48-second clip to a monthly competition run by Horse Feathers Comedy.

The competition sees entrants to record and submit funny video clips to its website, where members of the public then vote for their favourites. The top ten most popular entries are then reviewed by a panel to decide on the funniest.

The support worker filmed himself with a TENS machine strapped to his face and resulted in an electrifying reaction.

Sean said: “I am so chuffed to have won the prize! I’ll be using the money to put on a new show at the Edinburgh Fringe.

“I’ve been doing stand-up since uni, when I started doing open mic nights. I don’t think my younger self would believe where I am now. When I left school I could hardly read – I’ve got ADHD and dyslexia – so I’m really proud to be making a name for myself in comedy.”

Sean has performed at numerous North East comedy venues and festivals, including The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle and Jesterval Comedy Festival, as well an appearance on BBC One.

His YouTube video sensation ‘How to talk Geordie’ has over 500,000 views and he was shortlisted for Leicester Square’s Not-So-New Comedian of the Year 2019.

“I filmed the video about five years ago,” said Sean.

“I created funny videos that were short and I was just thinking of different ideas, my mam had left her TENS machine at mine so that’s where the idea came from. It did really hurt.”

Sean is getting ready for a preview of his Edinburgh Fringe show Comedy with a Dry Surreal Geordie Bloke at Bobkins at Newcastle’s The Punchbowl Hotel on April 28.
