Plea to trace potential witnesses in South Shields rape case

Police investigating a report of a rape are appealing for two potential key witnesses to come forward.

Detectives have been carrying out inquiries and believe the alleged victim spoke to two men in Stanhope Road, after the suspected sex attack in West Park, South Shields.

Officers are keen to speak to the men as potential witnesses in the investigation.

One of the men is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall, little build, dark short hair, wearing a black and grey scarf.

The only description of the second man is he was white with blond hair.

The alleged attack is believed to have taken place at just before midnight last Friday, November 17.

The men, or anyone with information, are asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 1271 171117 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A 19-year-old man has been charged with rape and appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning.
