Police are appealing for witnesses after a crash which saw part of the busy A1 closed for six hours.

Just before 5.15am today, police were informed that a Ford Puma had left the road on the southbound carriageway between Junction 68 at Team Valley and Junction 67 at the Angel of the North.

Emergency services attended the scene and a 28-year-old man was rescued from the vehicle and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his arm and back.

A 37-year-old man was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his shoulder.

The road was closed for around six hours to allow the vehicle to be recovered and an investigation to be carried out by officers.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone who has dashcam footage of the collision to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone who was travelling on the A1 in that location at the time of the incident, or who saw the silver Ford Puma involved, is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 289 010718.
