DRIVERS are facing delays on their way home this aftenoon.

Police are advising motorists of expected delays on the A1 northbound after an accident this morning.

Officers were dispatched at about 9.40am after a crash involving two vehicles on the A1 Western Bypass near the Blaydon bridge turn off.

A police spokesman said: “As a result of the collision damage has been caused to the nearside barrier. One lane of the carriageway will remain closed to allow the barrier to be repaired.

“It is anticipated the lane closure will cause increased congestion on the road.

“Motorists are advised to find alternative routes. They can either use the Tyne Bridge, Redheugh Bridge or Tyne Tunnel.”
