Police probe launched as driver has phone smashed after Jarrow hit-and-run crash

Police have launched a plea for information after a driver had her phone snatched and hurled into the road during a hit-and-run crash in South Tyneside.

A white HGV collided with a white Vauxhall Corsa at the Lindisfarne Roundabout in Jarrow, on the slip-road joining the A19 northbound towards the tyne tunnel at about 7.30am on Tuesday, August 2.

The driver of the Corsa got out and attempted to take a photograph of the lorry but a passenger got out and snatched her phone and threw it into oncoming traffic, causing it to smash.

The lorry then drove off.

Officers are carrying out inquiries and appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
