Police release images in hunt for South Tyneside serial sex pest

South Tyneside officers have received four separate reports in little over two months about a pervert grabbing a woman's buttocks before running away.

Three of the incidents were reported in Jarrow at the following locations:

*In Albert Road, near its junction with Bede Burn Road, at 9.25pm on Friday, June 29;

*In York Avenue, near its junction with Roman Road, at 9.30pm on Saturday, August 11;

*In Dene Terrace at 9.20pm on Monday, September 3.

A similar report was also made in Victoria Road East, near its junction with East View, Hebburn, at 8.45pm on Wednesday, August 22.

Officers are treating the incidents as linked and inquiries are ongoing to identify the person responsible in each case.

Police have identified a man who they would like to speak to in connection with their investigation.

He was in the Victoria Road East area of Hebburn on the evening of Wednesday, August 22, when one of the reports was made.

Acting Inspector Angela Lewis, of Northumbria Police, said: “We are treating these incidents seriously and we have increased patrols in the areas to reassure the community.

"None of the victims suffered any physical injuries, but were left shaken by what happened.

“We are now releasing an image of a man who we believe can help with our ongoing investigation.

“I would also ask anybody who saw anything suspicious on these dates, or residents who have CCTV in the streets listed, to get in touch.

“Your information could hold the key to bringing anyone responsible to justice.”

Police would also like to hear from anybody else who has experienced something similar and who has not yet reported it.
