Police warning following spate of car break-ins

Northumbria Police received four reports of theft from vehicles across Boldon Colliery and East Boldon overnight on Sunday, July 22, and Monday, July 23.

Among the items taken from the vehicles in Burnside Close, Portchester Grove and Rydal Close - some of which were left unlocked - were credit cards, electronic tools and cash.

Officers are treating the four incidents as linked, and have urged the public to be on their guard against potential offenders.

Inspector Denise Easdon, of Northumbria Police, said: “Most incidents we have experienced in recent weeks where cars have been broken into have been when the vehicle has been left unlocked or valuable items left on display.

“We would urge members of the public to take a few seconds longer to check their vehicle is locked when left unattended, and any valuable items removed from view.

“This will help deter opportunistic thieves, many of whom go from vehicle to vehicle looking for an easy win.

“Enquiries are ongoing into each of the incidents, and I would like to reassure the public that criminal action will be taken against identified offenders.”
