Applications open for £1.4million grant scheme - but decisions face delays due to coronavirus crisis

South Tyneside Council’s (STC) five Community Area Forums (CAFs) have access to a combined total of £1,404,000 to fund initiatives such as improvements to housing estates or Christmas parties.

But due to COVID-19 restrictions some council meetings have been suspended, meaning the committees cannot discuss applications.

An STC spokesperson said applications will be considered at the earliest opportunity.

They added: “CAF meetings have been temporarily stood down as the council continues to deal with the impact of coronavirus, with alternative arrangements being made for decisions on statutory or business-critical matters only at this time.

“However, we are keen to support our communities through the forums and the CAF grant allocations and application criteria were agreed by the council’s ‘executive’ decision-making Cabinet on Wednesday, April 29.

“The issues of meetings and criteria will be reviewed as circumstances develop.”
