The decision means the five Community Area Forums (CAFs) covering the borough will once again have access to a combined total of £1,404,000 to hand out to communities.

The cash will back approved schemes through three separate funding streams, such as improvements to housing estates or paying for Christmas parties, outings or new equipment for community groups.

“Each year we set aside funding to be used at a local level,” said Coun Ed Malcolm, cabinet member for Resources and Innovation.

“Despite reductions in government funding to the council, the level of funding for the CAFs will be maintained for the fifth year running.

“This demonstrates the council’s ongoing commitment to devolving decision-making to a local level.”

Coun Malcolm was speaking at a meeting of the council’s ruling cabinet, which was held virtually and broadcast online for the first time.
