A report from the BBC revealed a senior source in Downing Street has said that Mr Cummings would be "out of government" by Christmas.
Mr Cummings himself also commented that his "position hasn't changed since my January blog" when he said that he wanted to make himself "largely redundant" by the end of 2020.
There were calls for Mr Cummings to resign earlier this year after he was found to have broken Covid regulations by travelling to County Durham during lockdown restrictions while experiencing symptoms of coronavirus.

During the conference he explained that both he and his wife had contracted covid and feared they would become too poorly to care for their four-year-old child so traveled to Durham to be closed to his family who could help with childcare.
While staying in Durham Mr Cummings traveled 30 miles to Barnard Castle on his wife’s birthday in a visit he explained was to ‘check his eyesight’ and ensure he was well enough to drive again in order to return to London.
Mr Cummings grew up in Durham and attended Durham School before studying at Oxford University.
He played a key role in the Leave campaign and advised a number of high profile politicians before joining Downing Street.
Cabinet minister Grant Shapps told Sky News “He will be missed but then again we’re moving into a different phase,” adding that “advisers do come and go”.
Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner had no such kind words for the controversial advisor and wrote on Twitter: “I have no interest in Dominic Cummings’ apparent ‘legacy’.
"In the middle of a pandemic he shattered public trust and undermined lockdown & our fight against Covid.
"His cross-country road trip, long distance eye test, dishonesty & arrogance was an insult to the British people.”
