South Shields MP Emma Lewell-Buck has spoken of her regret over the decision for Britain to mount air strikes in Syria
Mrs Lewell-Buck voted against the Government in the Commons last night and air strikes against IS targets were carried out within hours of the decision.
It emerged today that 65% of readers are against the RAF taking action in Syria
Mrs Lewell-Buck said: “I am deeply disappointed by last night’s vote to extend air strikes into Syria.
"After listening extensively to the debate, I remain concerned that there is not a cohesive strategy in place for defeating Daesh.
"As a result air strikes have already begun and the UK has now been dragged into a potentially extensive and prolonged conflict we are not prepared for and that we have insufficient understanding of.
"I will now use my time in Parliament to press the Government on the many unanswered questions regarding this conflict."
She added: "I want to thank all of my constituents who have shared their views with me prior to this vote and I know all of Shields will stand with me when we send our thoughts and prayers to our military personnel and the civilians of Syria.”
