HUNDREDS of homes in South Shields were left in darkness after a power cut.
It happened in the NE33 postcode area of the town shortly before 10pm last night.
A total of 1,238 customers were affected, according to Northern Powergrid, whose engineers managed to restore power six minutes later.
A spokeswoman for the organisation said: “We had a fault on our high voltage network.
“Our priority is always to try and get customers back on supply as quickly as we can.
“Our network is very extensive and we can switch the supply.
“We restored all customers within six minutes.
“We apologise for any inconvenience during that period of time.”
