A POPULAR pub which has served a village community for 150 years has been praised for its excellent service.
The team at the Lord Nelson Inn, with landlady Lesley Huntley at the helm, have been described as dedicated and full of energy.
All that has put it in the running for a What’s On Where award.
Lesley admitted she was over the moon at the nomination and added: “I am delighted. It is excellent news.”
The nomination read: “This village pub has consistently served the community of Monkton, Lukes Lane and Primrose for over 150 years and in recent times the wider community of South Tyneside.
“The facilities, food, service, atmosphere and entertainment are all testament to the dedication of all the staff to customer satisfaction. I honestly believe without our village pub the local community would not be the same and that has to be down to Lesley and her staff.”
Lesley added: “We try to keep the Lord Nelson in the tradition that it had when I used to come here and which I was brought up in.”
Lesley took over the Lord Nelson seven years ago. Its many pluses include the beer garden – known locally as Nelly Gardens – which have been extended and updated. A marquee is also set up in the summer and is a hit for weddings and other functions.
The Lord Nelson’s band festival, which is held each September, is a huge attraction and pulled in 1,800 people last year.
The Lord Nelson becomes the latest in an impressive list of entrants for this year’s What’s On Where awards, which are held in association with our weekly entertainments guide, Wow 24/7.
They aim to reward the elite in everything from restaurants to children’s venues, takeaways to parks, community areas, and hotels, to the best shopping experience.
We want you to nominate your favourites in each of the categories listed on this page. The deadline for entries is February 5, next year.
