Rallying call for people to use South Shields charity hall

People are being urged to use a South Tyneside hall which is now officially a charity.

The Sutton Hall in Prince Edward Road, South Shields has served the residents living on the Affinity Sutton estate for decades.

However, the hall has now become a registered charity and members are wanting people to make the most of it.

Tony McManus, the club’s secretary said: “We’re now a charity in our own right.

“We’ve recently upgraded the hall’s light system and spruced it up.

“We have so many different clubs already based here, and there’s a chance for new ones to also start up, we still have slots available.

“We just want people to see what we have on offer, I don’t think many realise all of the different things going on.”

Every Monday a metafit exercise class runs from 9.30am to 10am and a line-dancing session is held from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.

Tuesdays metafit runs from 9.30am to 10am, tai chi, from 10.30am to 11.30am, and a modern and sequence dance class takes place from 6pm to 10pm.

On Wednesday Slimming World is held from 8.30pm to noon, then kung fu - kick boxing session take place between 7pm and 9pm.

On Thursdays metafit is on from 9.30am to 10am and a dance class from 8pm to 10pm.

Mr McManus said: “We’re ideal for parties, we’re licensed to serve alcohol and we have a number of events coming up of the Christmas and New Year period, so pop along.”

The bar/lounge is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday evenings, and Sunday from noon. The dance hall can be hired on Friday and Saturday for private functions but the club does not cater for 18th and 21st birthdays.

A Christmas Eve party will run from 7pm to 11pm, while the New Year’s Eve bash will run from 7pm to 1am.
