Readers have been having their say on the newest addition to South Shields town centre
The transformation of the former Marks and Spencer’s store in King Street into a new-look Boyes Department store is nearing completion.
For months workers have been on site refurbishing the store ahead of its doors opening to the public on Friday, September 7 .
The new store has created 25 part-time roles that have all been filled.
Elaine Palmer is looking forward to the store’s opening.
She wrote: “Will have to pop in. Got daughter ballet tights from the Stockton branch last year but she’s outgrown them now.”
Lynsey Simmons is pleased to see the new chain moving in after M&S closed its doors for the final time on March 29, 2014.
She typed: “M&S is still a miss but it’s good to see the store being used again.”
John Ho said: “I cannot wait for a new shop in Shields, it’s about time we have new shop.”
Rosa Bissett thinks it could be a good future employer.
She added “I would have a job in here.”
Amanda Fay thinks it’s similar to some of the town’s former stores.
She stated: “ It’s a bit like Woolworths was.”
W Boyes and Co Ltd, operate over 50 stores throughout Yorkshire, the North East, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
They sell a range of products from home and gardening equipment and furniture, cleaning products, health and beauty, clothing and footwear and pet supplies.
Marketing Director for Boyes. Robert Van der Heijden said: “Everything is going really well.
“The store has undergone a complete refurbishment, which is almost complete.
“We are all really excited.”
An opening ceremony will take place on at 9am on Friday September 7 - with a ribbon cutting signalling the store being officially open to the public.
Throughout the day there will also be the chance to win a number of prizes.
