Having impressed for Dundalk in their Europa League campaign this season the 24-year-old has attracted admiring glances from a number of English sides.

One of those is thought to be the Magpies, who were rumoured to have sent scouts to assess the 24-year-old.

His glittering performances for the League of Ireland outfit has seen him net 10 goals so far this campaign, one of which came in Russia against Zenit St Petersburg, as well as a call up to Martin O’Neill’s full Irish squad for this week’s World Cup qualifiers.

And when quizzed about the supposed links with Rafa Benitez’s Championship leaders, Horgan admitted he was flattered to be linked with such a “massive club like Newcastle”.

“I don’t know, really. To be honest with you, I try to stay out of it as much as I possibly can,” he said of the speculation.

“Look, it’s very easy to say you’re interested; it’s very different to put at offer on the table and at the minute, there are no offers on the table.

“I’m a Dundalk player, I’m very happy at Dundalk but as I said, if an offer does come in from somewhere, I’d have to consider it, especially something like a massive club like Newcastle.”
