CARE home residents have been down memory lane in South Shields in honour of a former neighbour.

Pensioners in Hampshire Court Care Home, in Marsden, were recently entertained by singer John Tipper.

The performer had been booked in memory of Vera Shotton, who died in December, aged 89, after living at the Hampshire Way home for more than three years.

Mrs Shotton’s sister Lila Finn, from Marsden, organised the event to give thanks for the care home’s help and support.

All of the home’s 13 residents turned out to enjoy the afternoon of music.

Lucy Doughty, acting manager, said: “This was a lovely and very different gesture for Vera’s family to do in her memory.

“Vera has been with us for many years and Lila wanted to do this to say thank you, because her sister loved her time here and she wanted to give something back to the home.

“The singer performed lots of songs from the olden days and the residents really enjoyed themselves, they all came along to watch and had a nice afternoon.”
