A PROJECT to replace crumbling walls in a Whitburn street is now complete.

Residents living in Ash Grove had called on councillors for help to revamp their ageing front garden walls.

Now, two years on, work has finally been completed thanks to cash from a Community Area Forum grant.

The new walls, which are higher than the originals, have also been fitted with ornate fencing.

Tracy Dixon, Labour councillor for Marsden and Whitburn, said: “The residents living in Ash Grove raised the issue of the aging walls and it was something we looked at, and as councillors agreed it was something which needed addressing.

“It has taken two years to complete, but the residents are really pleased with the outcome, it has really helped to enhance the overall look of the area. The work was funded with a grant from the Community Area Forum.”

Coun Dixon says the project could now be replicated in other areas

She added: “This work shows as councillors we do listen to the residents we represent, and we would encourage people to talk to us more, as it’s only through residents communicating with us and working with us that issues can be looked at and addressed.”
