YOU can’t get batter than this South Tyneside chippy.
Frankies has been named the Shields Gazette’s Chip Shop of the Year.
The chippy, in Stoddart Street, South Shields, was voted the borough’s favourite by customers and Gazette readers.
It’s an accolade that manager Andy Hall says the staff and owners are proud to accept.
He said: “We’re all very thankful. Winning the award is down to our good quality fish and chips at good prices, and we’re lucky to have a lot of loyal customers.
“We pride ourselves on cooking everything fresh to order and we’ll be displaying our award in the shop proudly.”

The chip shop has been owned by Frank and Stephanie Dowdall for the last six years and has gone from strength to strength.
Andy added: “Good Friday is always our busiest day of the year and this year was our best one since opening.
“There were queues right down the street waiting for fish and chips and it’s brilliant that people still take part in the tradition.
“Frank and Stephanie are very thankful to their loyal customers and dedicated staff members.
“We’re hoping to defend our title next year and hopefully business will continue to get better and better like it has done over the last six years.”
