A unisex salon in South Tyneside has proved it is top of the crops after scooping the title of Salon of the Year.

Wilson Brown has come out as the winner of The Gazette’s competition to find the best hairdresser or barber shop in South Tyneside.

To win Salon of the Year is tremendous. I’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to our customers for their support and loyalty over the years.

The salon, Edinburgh Road, Jarrow, saw off competitors from across the area, leaving owner Ashleigh Hall delighted.

Miss Hall, who opened the salon 10 years ago said: “I knew we had been nominated, as some of our customers had mentioned it to us.

“But the response from them during the voting has been overwhelming.

“I’ve always been into hairdressing, but took time out to raise my children.

“I came back into it and then, after a few years of running the salon, I found there was a need for a barber’s shop, so decided to separate the salon in two.

“Both are doing really well, with customers coming back time and time again.

The salon currently employs five staff including Ashleigh and provides hair services for men, women and children.

It was chosen after initially being nominated by customers.

After it made the shortlist it was then down to the public to choose their winner by voting.
