Roads reopen after rush-hour chaos on A19 and A1231 in Sunderland

The A1231 at Wessington Way was closed to Eastbound traffic this morning after a single vehicle collision over the A19. A diversion was in place via Testos or the A690.

A serious four-vehicle collision left lanes blocked on the A19 Northbound.

It happened prior to the A1231 at Sunderland Highway. Emergency services were on scene but the road has now reopened.

A section of the A1231 Eastbound was also closed near to Nissan, Washington following a road traffic collision. A diversion was put in place onto the A19 Northbound and back onto A1231 around the incident.
