Roads round up: Where are the floods causing traffic problems in the North East?

Though the rain has eased slightly throughout the day, many routes across the region are continuing to be affected by standing water.

If you're driving in the North East this evening, it's best to check the most up to date travel news before setting out.

A number of roads in Tyne & Wear, and further afield, are affected by flooding - or are passable with standing water.

Only one road in the region is reported as having a severe disruption at the moment; the A697 in Glanton. The route is closed between the Playwell Road junction and the Causeway junction due to flooding. Motorists are being urged to use alternative routes.

Northumbria Police has confirmed via Twitter that the region's roads are mostly clear, with no major traffic disruption.

A number of medium and minor disruptions are in place on other roads, due to flooding and other congestion.
